ASTON, Pa. – Immaculata University softball saw its season come to a close on Friday afternoon with a 2-1 loss to fourth-seed Gwynedd-Mercy College in the double-elimination Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament.
Immaculata put the first run on the scoreboard in the fifth as
Samantha Strickland had a sacrifice fly to score
Patsy Murphy from third. Murphy had come in to pinch run for
Jenny Barnholt, who had reached base on a fielder's choice.
Gwynedd-Mercy then scored two runs in the top of the sixth as the Griffins had a single followed by a double to lead off the inning. Both runs then scored on an infield line-drive single off first baseman
Danielle Palmisano's foot.
Immaculata had an opportunity in its half of the sixth after getting two runners on base with two out, but the runners were left standing at first and second.
Holly Schell led the team going 3-for-4 at the plate. Palmisano finished the game 2-for-4. Caitlin Hudock,
Jessica DeCastro and
Christiana Donofry all had one hit for the Mighty Macs.
Nicole Curcione took the loss in the circle. She gave up six hits, allowed two runs, struck out three and walked one.
Immaculata concludes the 2013 season with an overall record of 22-18. The Mighty Macs' 22 wins marked a program best.
