Softball Takes Game One From Cedar Crest, 7-1

, Pa. – Immaculata's softball team continued its weekend winning streak on Saturday as it defeated Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) foe Cedar Crest, 7-1, in a shorten five-inning game. Game two of the doubleheader was postponed due to the snow. 
 
Immaculata pitcher Meagan Fitzgerald was able to work out of trouble during the final three innings as Cedar Crest pushed just one run across the plate while leaving seven runners on base. Fitzgerald pitched all five innings allowing just four hits and one runs while striking out three and giving up five walks.
 
The Mighty Macs (6-5, 3-0 CSAC) were able to capitalize on two Falcon errors in the first inning as four of Immaculata's first five hitters all reached base to put two runs on the scoreboard. Holly Schell led the game off reaching on an error, and after stealing second and getting to third on Christiana Donofry's sacrifice bunt, scored when Melissa Ejk was safe at first on an error. Danielle Palmisano then singled, and Samantha Strickland hit a RBI double to score Ejk.
 
Immaculata next struck for five runs in the top of the fourth as the Mighty Macs went through all nine batters in their lineup. Jenny Barnholt singled to start the inning, and two batters later Allison Zborowski had a RBI double to plate Barnholt. Schell and Donofry then walked to load the bases for Immaculata. Ejk then singled to score Zborowski, and Palmisano had her second single of the game to score Schell. Donofry scored the final run of the inning on a passed ball.
 
Cedar Crest (1-6, 0-3 CSAC) manufactured its only run of the game in the bottom of the fourth as its first two hitters both walked, and then scored on a single.
 
Ejk, Palmisano and Zborowski all had two hits during the game as Immaculata had eight hits as a team. Strickland had a team-high two RBI.
 
Immaculata is off until Thursday when it travels to Reading, Pa., for a doubleheader with Penn State Berks beginning at 3 p.m.
