Mighty Macs Fall At The Buzzer To Keystone

Box Score

LA PLUME, Pa.- Immaculata (10-13, 9-7 CSAC) travelled to Keystone (14-9, 11-5 CSAC) looking to snap a four-game losing skid, but were unable to do so when Keystone's Dan Candemeres hit a jumper with 0.8 seconds left in the game to lift the Giants to the 79-77 CSAC victory.  The Mighty Macs have now lost a season-high five games in a row and sit in 6th place in the CSAC standings with two games remaining in the season.

The Mighty Macs led for the entire game, and by as many as 12 at 72-60 with 5:13 left, before Keystone erased the deficit and tied the game at 74-74 with 1:24 remaining.  Sophomore Xavier Brown, who had a career and team-high 23 points, then drilled a three to put Immaculata on top, but the Giants responded with a triple of their own to tie the game back up at 77 apiece with 48 seconds left.

Brown just missed a jumper from the lane to put the Mighty Macs ahead and Keystone would have one more chance with nine seconds left and Candemeres made it count by hitting a tough jumper.  Immaculata was unable to get a shot off with the remaining time as Keystone closed out the game on a 19-5 run.

The Mighty Macs were led by Brown while junior Brandon Smith added 17 points.  As a team, Immaculata shot 60% from the field for the game and knocked down 10 threes.  Seniors T.J. Klinger (11 points) and Nelson Torres (10 points) were the other two players in double figures for the Mighty Macs.

Immaculata led 35-29 at the half and the lead grew to 51-41 with 14:31 to go after back-to-back threes by Klinger and Brown.  The Giants then ripped off seven straight and whittled the lead all the way down to two points at 58-56 before the Mighty Macs had a 14-4 run of their own to get the 12-point advantage prior to the final Keystone run.  Brown, Smith, and Klinger scored 11 of the points during that spurt.

In the first half, the Mighty Macs led the entire way and by as many as nine points at 24-15 after one of Brown's five three-pointers on the day.  Keystone hung in the game with Duncan Lunsford, who had 26 points, and the Mighty Macs took a 35-29 advantage to the locker room.
