Men's Basketball Falls At Neumann, 62-50

ASTON, Pa.- Looking to win their second consecutive Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) game, Immaculata travelled to Neumann, but the Knights (4-3, 2-2 CSAC) pulled away late in claiming a 62-50 victory.  The Mighty Macs (3-3, 1-2 CSAC) had the lead midway through the second half, but Neumann took control and scored the final eight points of the game to win their second CSAC game.
 
Junior Mamadou Diakite led Immaculata with 13 points and eight rebounds, while junior Jose Ortiz (12 points) and sophomore Rodney Duncan (11 points) also reached double figures.
 
The Mighty Macs trailed by one at 31-30 coming out of the locker room, but by 11:03 remaining they grabbed a 43-42 lead after free throws by junior Barry Brockington (5 points, 3 rebounds).
 
Freshman Matt Simon tied the game at 44-44 again with a free throw, but Neumann then went on a 9-1 spurt to go up by eight points with 7:29 to go.
 
Duncan drilled a three to cut it to five and after a Mark Blount (17 points) free throw, Duncan scored again on a lay-up to make it 54-50 with 3:08 remaining.
 
Neumann then ripped off eight straight points and held the Mighty Macs scoreless the rest of the way on their way to a 62-50 triumph.
 
In the first half, the teams went back and forth trading the lead eight times. Ortiz had ten of his points in the opening half and Diakite had nine, but Neumann had a one point lead at the break.
 
The Mighty Macs will have off for finals week before travelling to Lafayette for the program's first game against a Division I opponent on December 17th at 7 p.m.
 
NOTES: Senior Brandon Smith has now played 2,002 minutes, sixth most in IU history.
