PHILADELPHIA, Pa.- The fourth-seeded Immaculata women's tennis team (9-9) played in their first conference postseason since 2005 as they took on the top-seeded Gwynedd Mercy Griffins (16-2), and the Griffins locked up a spot in the CSAC Championship with a 6-1 victory that ended the Mighty Macs season. For the year, Immaculata went 9-9 overall with a 7-3 record in conference play.
In doubles, Gwynedd Mercy claimed all three to take early control of the match. In first doubles, freshman
Lauren Degnan and junior
Paige Sparks fell 8-1, while senior
Theresa Martini and sophomore
Kara Trowbridge lost 8-3 in second doubles. In the third doubles position, freshman
Annaliese Kambouroglos and junior
Pattie McGinley trailed 7-4, but battled back in the next two games to cut the deficit to one until Gwynedd Mercy wrapped up the 8-6 victory.
In singles, senior
Julie Einwechter won by retirement in the fifth spot after an injury. Kambouroglos was battling in the fourth position, tied in the first set, but the match was called as the Griffins got to the required point amount with wins at the first, second, and third spots.
Gwynedd Mercy will go on to the championship to take on the winner of Cabrini and Marywood.
