Immaculata Pulls Away For Fourth Straight Victory

BOX SCORE

IMMACULATA, Pa.-
The men's basketball team started fast and used another big second half to notch their fourth straight victory by a score of 77-64 over visiting Marywood (5-13, 4-7 CSAC) at Alumnae Hall on Wednesday night.  Immaculata (9-8, 8-2 CSAC) outscored the Pacers 42-33 to maintain the advantage throughout the second half and close out their sixth straight conference home win of the season.

In the victory, senior Nelson Torres had five rebounds which made him Immaculata's all-time rebounds leader with 473 for his career as he passed Kyle Finklea (2005-09).

Much like they did against Rosemont, the Mighty Macs raced out to a 10-0 advantage to set the tone against the Pacers.  Four different players scored during the run and Immaculata had all the momentum.  An Adam Jones (eight points, six rebounds) layup closed the run three and a half minutes in as Immaculata had continued their hot shooting from the other night.

Marywood had whittled the lead down to five points at 16-11 with 11:17 to go in the opening frame before senior Kendall Peters scored eight straight points for the Mighty Macs, including two three pointers to push the Mighty Mac advantage up to 11 points.

From there the Pacers responded with an 8-0 push of their own and eventually took the lead at 31-30 with just over two minutes to go in the half.  However, Torres closed out the half with five straight to give him 13 of his team-high 18 points in the first half as the Mighty Macs took a 35-31 lead to the locker room.  The senior also added five assists in the contest.

In the opening eight minutes of the second half, the Mighty Macs had four three pointers and one traditional three point play to extend their lead out to 12 points at 54-42.  Senior Todd Stokley (11 points, 7 rebounds) and sophomore Xavier Brown (13 points, 4 assists, 4 rebounds) each knocked down a triple while senior T.J. Stokley (7 points, 5 assists) knocked down two of his own to contribute.  Junior Brandon Smith (7 points) finished the traditional three-point play.

The Mighty Macs would continue to hold the double digit lead with it growing to as large as 17 points at 67-50 with 4:43 to go in the game after a Torres free throw.  Marywood would have the lead as low as 10, but Immaculata free throw shooting closed out the Pacers as the Mighty Macs took their fourth straight by a score of 77-64.

Kendall Harris led the way for Marywood with 18 points.

The Mighty Macs will now travel to Baptist Bible on Saturday at 2 p.m. looking for a season sweep of the Defenders after topping them 58-49 on January 12th.
