IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata (5-7, 4-1 CSAC) bounced back from a three-game losing skid by defeating Baptist Bible (2-11, 0-8 CSAC) 58-49 on Saturday afternoon at Alumnae Hall. The win is the Mighty Macs first since before Christmas break when they defeated Cairn, 76-59. The teams traded early baskets before the Defenders took a 9-6 lead with just over 15 minutes remaining in the first half. However, Immaculata responded with a 6-0 spurt that erased the only lead Baptist Bible would hold the whole game. Senior
Todd Stokley (four points, four rebounds, three assists) had two buckets and Torres contributed one as well to propel the run.
The Defenders worked hard to even the game at 16-16 before another 6-0 run put Immaculata back out front. Torres completed a traditional three-point play coupled with buckets from Brown and Torres to deny the Baptist Bible momentum.
The lead never got higher than six for Immaculata in the first half and they took a 30-25 lead into the locker room. Torres led the team with nine points at the break.
To open the second half, the Mighty Macs went on a 12-4 run to open up a comfortable double-digit lead. Juniors
Jerod Cain (two points) and
Brandon Smith (six points, seven rebounds) both scored during the run, and Klinger knocked down a tough fall away three-pointer, the first of the game for Immaculata.
Baptist Bible would not go quietly as they continued to battle the Mighty Macs down the stretch and had the Immaculata lead down to three at 49-46 with 5:11 to play in the game. That's when Immaculata closed out the Defenders by allowing only one more made field goal on their way to a 58-49 triumph.
The win keeps the Mighty Macs near the top of the CSAC standings after suffering their first conference setback on Wednesday night.
