Women's Tennis Edged 5-4 In Opener

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University women's tennis took its first match of the 2012 campaign down to the wire as the deciding point was finished in a third-set tiebreaker as the sun was setting over Immaculata. Visiting Keystone College edged Immaculata, 5-4, as Friday marked the not only the season opener but the first Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) match for the Mighty Macs.
 
Immaculata (0-1, 0-1 CSAC) began the match taking third doubles from the Giants. Pattie McGinley and Kara Trowbridge defeated Delanie Schaepe and KateLynn Strickler, 8-1. The Mighty Macs lost the top two pairs positions by scores of 8-3.
 
McGinley became the first double winner of the afternoon by making quick work of Strickler at the No. 6 singles position, 6-0, 6-1. Trowbridge then pulled the match even at 3-3 with her win at No. 4 singles opposite Julia Sherry, 6-2, 6-1.
 
Theresa Martini won the fourth point of the match for the Mighty Macs at the No. 3 singles spot, 6-4, 6-0, against Amanda Perry.
 
The deciding point of the match came down to Immaculata's Ally Minton and Keystone's Schaepe at No. 5 singles. Schaepe won the opening set, 6-4, but Minton captured the second set, 6-2. Schaepe claimed the tiebreaker by the score 6-3 to send the Giants (1-0, 1-0 CSAC) to their first conference win this season.
 
Immaculata is back on the court on Sept. 5 hosting Rutgers-Camden at 3:30 p.m.
