Mighty Macs Drop Opener At DeSales

CENTER VALLEY, Pa.
– Immaculata University women's soccer opened the lid on its 2012 season led by first-year head coach Lisa Parsons on Friday evening at DeSales University. The host Bulldogs handed the Mighty Macs a 4-1 defeat in the non-conference season opener for both teams.
 
Rachel Gannon lifted Immaculata (0-1) to an early 1-0 lead with her unassisted goal in the 18th minute as she went one-on-one with DeSales' goalkeeper and was able to find open netting.
 
DeSales evened the score at 1-all in the 34th minute, and it remained a 1-1 tie at halftime.
 
The Bulldogs pulled away during the second half scoring three goals in the 53rd, 65th and 81st minutes.
 
Immaculata goalkeeper Meghan McCurnin played all 90 minutes making five saves in the loss. DeSales goalkeeper Michelle Churchman recorded started and played the first half and did not record a save. Churchman was relieved by Alex Bastinelli in the second half. Bastinelli earned the win making two stops.
 
Immaculata returns to action on Sept. 5 heading to Albright at 5 p.m.
