IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata softball team saw its 2012 season end Wednesday with a 9-7 loss in nine innings against fifth- seeded Baptist Bible in the preliminary round of the Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) Tournament.
Maleaha Himmons finished 3-for-4 at the plate scoring three runs and tallied three RBI to lead Immaculata.
Julia Lamplugh registered two hits with two RBI.
Baptist Bible led off with a homerun to take the early lead but a two-run homerun from
Julia Lamplugh put the Mighty Macs ahead 2-1 in the second inning. The Defenders plated three runs in the third to regain the lead before
Maleaha Himmons added a single for the Mighty Macs in the fourth to cut the 4-3 advantage.
Trailing 5-3 in the bottom of the fourth, the Mighty Macs exploded with four runs for the lead.
Holly Schell scored the first run of the inning on
Danielle Palmisano's single and Himmons' capped off the inning with a three-run homerun scoring
Beth Anne Kircher and
Dana Bozzetto.
The Defenders knotted the score 7-7 with a pair of runs in the sixth and neither team would score through the seventh, sending the game into extra innings. Baptist Bible tallied two more runs in the top of the ninth on Immaculata errors to seal the victory and advance to the CSAC championship round.
Meagan Fitzgerald started in the circle and allowed seven runs on six hits in 5.2 innings and struck out 10 batters. Nikki Curcione pitched the final 3.1 innings surrendering four hits and struck out three batters.
The loss ends of the careers for three Mighty Macs, including
Dana Bozzetto,
Brooke Habermehl, and
Julia Lamplugh.
Immaculata finishes the 2012 season with an overall record of 21-20.
