Softball Earns No. 4 Seed, Hosts Baptist Bible Wednesday

Immaculata, Pa.- Immaculata University's softball team has qualified for the Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament for the fourth-straight season. The Mighty Macs enter the conference tournament as the No. 4-seed, and begin play on Wednesday, May 2, in the preliminary round.

The Mighty Macs (21-19, 17-10 CSAC) will host fifth-seeded Baptist Bible (21-19, 13-9 CSAC) on Wednesday, May 2, for a 4 p.m. start with the Defenders. Immaculata swept Baptist Bible, 7-1 and 4-1, in the regular season.

During the 2011 CSAC Tournament, Immaculata was seeded third and hosted the No. 6-seed Cabrini for its quarterfinal contest, where the Mighty Macs edged the Cavaliers, 6-5. Immaculata advanced to the CSAC Championship Finals but fell to second-seeded Centenary,4-1, in the first round before ending its season with an 8-5 loss to Neumann.

The Mighty Macs are led this season by freshman Samantha Strickland, who has a team-best .425 batting average on 37 hits and has scored 13 runs. Junior shortstop Holly Schell is batting .394 with a team-best 56 hits, 39 runs and 18 stolen bases. Senior second baseman Dana Bozzetto is third on the squad with a batting average of .350 and lists second on the team with 42 hits and eight doubles.

Freshman Maleaha Himmons leads the team with five triples, five homeruns and 36 RBI.  Sophomore pitcher Meagan Fitzgerald (12-7) is the team's starting pitcher listing with a 3.32 ERA in 119.1 innings. She also leads all pitchers with 93 strikeouts.

Baptist Bible has qualified for the CSAC Tournament for the second-straight season. In 2011, the Defenders ended their season in the quarterfinal round to Marywood, 6-1.  

In the league's other preliminary-round game on Wednesday, the No. 3-seed Marywood will host No. 6-seed Keystone. The winners of Wednesday's preliminary contests will travel to No. 1-seed Centenary for the championship finals on May 4 and 5.
