COLLEGEVILLE, Pa.- Immaculata University dropped both games of a non-league softball doubleheader at Ursinus, 8-1 and 12-5, on Tuesday afternoon.
After two scoreless innings in the opener, Ursinus took a large lead in the third scoring six runs and added two insurance runs in the fourth to seal the victory. The Mighty Macs added its only run of the game in the fifth as
Dana Bozzetto scored on
Jenny Barnholt's ground out.
Meagan Fitzgerald took the loss in 5.0 innings allowing eight runs on 10 hits.
Allison Zborowski pitched the final inning and only allowed two hits.
Immaculata's bats warmed up in the second game as the Mighty Macs took the lead in the first inning.
Maleaha Himmons tripled plating
Julia Lamplugh and
Jessica DeCastro and Himmons would come around to score on
Samantha Strickland's single.
The Mighty Macs extended its lead in the second with a single run on
Julia Lamplugh's RBI single that brought home
Holly Schell.
Ursinus put up two runs in the third to cut the lead but Himmons tripled again and later scored on Strickland's single to lead, 5-2.
The Bears claimed the lead in the fifth with an eight-run fifth and two more in the sixth to come away with the win.
Himmons finished 2-for-4 at the plate with two RBIs, two triples, and two runs to pace Immaculata. Lamplugh, Bozzetto, and Strickland also registered two hits.
Nikki Curcione lasted 4.2 innings giving up eight runs on eight hits for the loss. Zborowski came in relief allowing four runs on three hits in 1.1 innings of work.
Immaculata (11-15, 6-4 CSAC) returns to CSAC play on Monday, April 9 at Notre Dame beginning at 3 p.m.
