Softball Splits With Centenary In Regular Season Finale

HACKETTSTOWN, NJ- The Immaculata University softball team concluded its regular season with a split to Centenary on Friday afternoon in CSAC action. The Mighty Macs dropped the first game 3-1 but rallied to win the nightcap, 4-0.
 
The Mighty Macs finished the regular season with an overall record of 21-19 and 16-6 in the CSAC while Centenary stands at 23-14 and 19-3 in the conference.
 
In the opener, Centenary held a 2-0 lead through four innings until the Mighty Macs scored its only run of the game in the fifth when Holly Schell singled to score Allison Zborowski. The Cyclones added an in insurance run in the sixth for the victory.
 
Meagan Fitzgerald (12-8) took the loss in 6.0 innings allowing three runs on eight hits and struck out four batters.
 
In the nightcap, Immaculata scored a pair of runs in the second and third innings and that would be all the Mighty Macs needed to earn the shutout win.
 
Nikki Curcione's double in the second inning plated Brittany Merkle and Julia Lamplugh for the 2-0 lead. Merkle sealed the win in the third knocking in a double that scored Lamplugh and Beth Anne Kircher.
 
Lamplugh and Merkle both went 2-for-3 to lead Immaculata at the plate. Merkle and Curcione registered two-RBIs each.
 
Curcione (6-3) went the distance for the win only allowing five hits in seven innings of work.
 
 Immaculata begins play in the CSAC tournament on Wednesday, May 2 in quarterfinal action.
