Softball Sweeps Home Finale Opposite Marywood

IMMACULATA, Pa. - Immaculata's softball team celebrated senior day Saturday afternoon honoring its three seniors, Dana Bozzetto, Broke Habermehl, and Julia Lamplugh with a Colonial States Athletic Conference sweep of Marywood, 3-2 and 4-3.

Immaculata improved to a 20-18 overall mark and 15-5 in the CSAC and Marywood falls 16-14 overall and 14-4.

In the opener, Marywood drove in a single run in the top of the first to jump out to the early lead but the Mighty Macs knotted the score 1-1 in the bottom half of the inning on Samantha Strickland's double that scored Bozzetto.

Immaculata gained the lead with a single in the fourth but the Pacers tied the score, 2-2, at the top of the fifth. Immaculata led off the seventh with a Holly Schell single and Bozzetto's sacrifice fly advanced Schell to second. Maleaha Himmons followed with a walk and then Strickland's single plated Schell for the game winning run.

Meagan Fitzgerald went the distance walking three and striking out four. She allowed five Marywood hits and both runs were earned.

In the nightcap, Immaculata gained an early lead on Maleaha Himmons's solo homerun in the bottom of the first but the Pacers jumped on top of the Mighty Macs with two runs in the third.

The Mighty Macs answered with one run in the bottom of the third on Bozzetto's double scoring Schell to tie the score, 2-2. Immaculata broke through in the bottom of the fifth on Himmons' two-run homerun which proved to be the game-winner as Marywood only managed to add a single in the final inning.

Schell finished 2-for-4 with two runs scored and Himmons went 2-for-3 and a team-high three RBI.

Nikki Curcione (5-3) pitched the seven-inning complete game, allowing three earned runs and 12 hits, getting the win for Immaculata.

Immaculata concludes the regular season at Centenary on Friday, April 27 at 3 p.m.
