Softball Splits With Widener

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata's softball team split its non-conference doubleheader against Widener on Monday afternoon. The Mighty Macs won the opener, 4-1, and fell in the nightcap, 8-6.

The Mighty Macs took an early lead in the first with a single from Holly Schell and added three more in the fourth to take the lead for good. Widener got on the scoreboard in the fifth inning scoring its only run of the game.

Holly Schell led Immaculata at the plate going 3-for-3 scoring two runs and a team-high three RBIs.

Megan Fitzgerald (7-4) started in the circle for Immaculata pitching all seven innings. She allowed four hits and struck out eight.

The Pride struck early in game two scoring a single in the first and tallied seven runs in the second for the lead. Maleaha Himmons knocked in a three-run homerun to cut the lead in the bottom of the frame.

The Mighty Macs continued to chip away at the lead when Himmons doubled in the bottom of the third scoring Dana Bozzetto and Samantha Strickland followed by Nikki Curcione's single in the fifth to make the score, 8-6.

Danielle Palmisano took the loss, allowing eight hits and three earned runs in 1.2 innings of work. Nikki Curcione came in relief and only allowed two hits in 5.1 innings.

Immaculata travels to Ursinus for a non-conference doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
