MYRTLE BEACH, S.C. – The Immaculata University softball team opened the 2012 season Monday with a pair of losses to Dakota State University (1-0) and Swarthmore (9-5) in Myrtle Beach, SC.
Starting pitcher Meagan Fitzgerald took the loss, allowing one run on three hits, all in the first inning. Dana Bozzetto, Nikki Curcione, Danielle Palmisano, Julia Lamplugh and Brittany Merkle collected one hit each in the loss.
In the second game, Maleaha Himmons hit a 3-run home run to put the Mighty Macs ahead but Swarthmore answered with five runs in the fourth to seal the win, 9-5.
Immaculata continues their schedule in the Snowbird Tournament Tuesday. The Mighty Macs will face King's College at 9:30 a.m. and Bluefield College at 11:30 a.m.
