Mighty Macs Sweep Griffins In Softball Doubleheader

IMMACULATA, Pa.- The  Immaculata University softball squad posted an eight run-first en route to a 13-4 win in the opener and held off a Gwynedd-Mercy rally to earn a 14-10 win in the nightcap as the Mighty Macs swept a Colonial States Athletic Conference twinball on Monday afternoon.

In the opener, the Griffins got on the scoreboard first with a single before Immaculata blasted eight runs in the bottom of the frame to take the lead.

Allison Zborowski scored on Dana Bozzetto's single in the fourth to extend Immaculata's lead, 9-1. Gwynedd-Mercy would post three runs in the fifth but Immaculata added three insurance runs in the sixth to end the game.

Dana Dinsey finished 4-for-4 with one run scored and three RBIs. Holly Schell and Samaatha Strickland finished 2-for-4 at the plate as Schell scored two runs and Strickland posted her first career homerun. Jenny Barnholt had a team-best four RBIs.

Meagan Fitzgerald pitched a complete game for the win allowing 12 hits and stuck out five batters.

In the nightcap, the Griffins posted two homeruns in the first inning to take a 3-0 lead before lead-off batter Holly Schell blasted a homerun of her own as the Mighty Macs scored four runs in the first to take the lead, 4-3.

Both teams posted a three-run second but Immaculata extended the lead with three runs in the third on a double from Maleaha Himmons that scored Schell and Jenny Barnholt's single that scored Himmons and Nikki Curcione to end the frame.

The Griffins would end the scoring with four more in the top of the fourth as the Mighty Macs came through with four runs of their own to steal the win.

Dana Disney and Holly Schell finished with a 3-for-5 performance at the plate as Disney posted two runs and a team-high five RBIs and Schell scored three runs. Dana Bozzetto and Curcione both finished 4-for-4 and Barnholt added two hits in the victory.

Curcione went 3.2 innings surrendering 14 hits and struck out three batters and Fitzgerald went 2.0 innings to end the game and did not allow a hit.

Immaculata is back in action on Tuesday, March 27 hosting Rutgers-Camden at 3 p.m.
