Softball Drops Both Ends of Doubleheader At Alvernia

READING, Pa.- The Immaculata University softball team was swept by Alvernia in a non-league doubleheader on Tuesday afternoon. The Crusaders took game one 5-4 in eight innings and won game two 8-0 in six innings.

In the first game, Immaculata tied the score, 2-2, in the top of the fifth when Holly Schell's single scored Christiana Donofry. Meagan Fitzgerald later scored on an error by Alvernia's second baseman.

A scoreless sixth and seventh inning sent both teams into the eighth inning. Dana Disney's single scored Dana Bozzetto in the top of the eighth, and Disney would add another run when she advanced on a Crusader error to gain the lead, 4-2.

Alvernia, however, prevailed in the eighth putting up three runs to steal the win.

Fitzgerald (0-1) took the loss in 7.1 innings allowing five runs on six hits and struck out two batters.

In the nightcap, the Crusaders held the Mighty Macs to only one hit as Alvernia put up four runs in the first, three in the second, and the last run came in the sixth inning.

Immaculata returns to action on Friday, March 16 as the Mighty Macs open CSAC play at Cabrini.
