LANGHORNE, Pa. – Immaculata University's men's basketball squad went on the road Tuesday night and defeated Philadelphia Biblical, 73-67, in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.
The Mighty Macs (7-15, 5-10 CSAC) were led by 21 points from
Rob Siter.
Nelson Torres had16 points, including 10 of 14 from the free throw line, and
Todd Stokley finished with 14 points.
Brandon Smith and
T.J. Klinger each had six rebounds to lead the squad on the glass.
Immaculata took the lead (7-5) at the 17:01 mark of the opening half, and never gave the lead back to Philadelphia Biblical. The Crimson Eagles cut the Mighty Macs' lead to just one four times before the 10-minute mark of the first half. However, Immaculata expanded its edge to 13 (29-16) with 5:16 to play before halftime. The Mighty Macs went into the locker room with their largest lead of the opening half, 36-22.
The Mighty Macs pushed their advantage to 16 to begin the second half, 43-27, at the 16:06 mark, before the Crimson Eagles went on a 7-0 run to come within nine (43-34) with 12:50 left in the contest.
After Immaculata went back ahead by 16 points, Philadelphia Biblical cut its deficit to six (54-48) with 5:59 remaining in the game. The Mighty Macs' single-digit lead was short-lived as they pushed it back to 13 just over a minute later.
The Crimson Eagles again cut the Mighty Macs lead to six, 68-62, with 40 seconds left in the contest after Adam Derus connected on a three-pointer.
T.J. Klinger extended Immaculata's lead to seven (69-62) after a made free throw, but Philadelphia Biblical answered with a Derus layup to cut it to five with 24 seconds left.
Siter and Torres each went 1-for-2 from the free throw line in an attempt to seal the game, but the Crimson Eagles wouldn't give up. Philadelphia Biblical's Derus sunk another three with five seconds left to come within four, 71-67.
Torres went back to the charity stripe with 3.7 seconds left in the contest and knocked both shots down to seal the game, 73-67.
Philadelphia Biblical's Seth Heinicke had a game-best 23 points while Derus finished with 22 points.
Immaculata hosts Rosemont on Saturday afternoon at 3 p.m.
