Gwynedd-Mercy Too Much For Immaculata Men

, Pa. - The Immaculata University men's basketball team fell to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon, 80-62, in a road Colonial States Athletic Conference contest.

The host Griffins improved to 13-8 overall and 8-6 in league play while the Mighty Macs slipped to 6-15, 4-10 CSAC.

Todd Stokley led Immaculata with 12 points, three assists and four rebounds. Rob Siter finished with 11 points, six rebounds and three assists, and Nelson Torres added 11 points and three rebounds.

Gwynedd-Mercy had four scorers in double figures led by 19 points from Dan DelConte. Frank Champion also had 16 points and a game-high nine rebounds for the Griffins.

The first three minutes of the contest saw three ties and three lead changes. Immaculata had taken a two-point edge, 8-6, at the 17:26 mark when Brandon Smith sunk a pair of free throws. It proved to be the Mighty Macs last advantage of the game, however.

Gwynedd-Mercy scored 14 unanswered points during a 3:08 span that gave the Griffins a 20-8 lead with 12:19 left in the first half. Immaculata cut it's deficit to eight (20-12) after Mark Davenport had a jumper and Torres hit two free throws with 10:50 remaining in the period.

The Griffins led by as many as 21 (36-15) with 4:40 remaining in the opening stanza, before the Mighty Macs outscored the Griffins, 15-5, during the final 4:26 of the half to trail at halftime, 41-30.

Immaculata slowly chipped away at Gwynedd-Mercy's lead in the second half, eventually cutting it to seven, 57-50, by the 11:56 mark, and it remained a seven-point game (59-52) with 8:24 to play after Siter had a tip-in.

The Griffins pulled away during the next five minutes with a 21-5 spurt that put the contest out of reach for the Mighty Macs, 80-57, with 2:18 remaining.

Immaculata travels to Philadelphia Biblical on Tuesday night at 8 p.m.
