Box Score

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa. – Sixth-seeded Immaculata University powered past No. 3-seed Gwynedd-Mercy College on Saturday afternoon, 94-82, in a quarterfinal contest of the Colonial States Athletic Conference Men's Basketball Tournament.

The Mighty Macs (11-15), who extended their winning streak to five games, advance to the tournament semifinals on Tuesday night, where they will face the top-seeded Cabrini Cavaliers at 7 p.m. No. 2-seed Keystone College hosts fifth seed Neumann University in the other semifinal. Neumann defeated No. 4 seed Rosemont College, 73-59, in today's other quarterfinal tilt.

Brandon Smith had a career day for the Mighty Macs, posting 29 points on a 12 of 14 effort from the field. Rob Siter added 19 points, eight rebounds, four steals and four assists, and Nelson Torres had 18 points, including 12-for-17 from the free throw line, seven rebounds and six assists.

“Brandon got some touches early in transition, which really helped him get going off of Gwynedd-Mercy's pressure,” Immaculata head coach Jamie Chadwin said. “We did a good job breaking the press and getting the ball to Brandon and letting him finish, which was key.”

Todd Stokley also reached double figures with 10 points and a game-high nine rebounds. T.J. Klinger finished with eight points and three assists, while Mark Davenport and Kendall Peters added five points and three rebounds off the bench.

Gwynedd-Mercy (17-9) scored the opening basket and it would be one of only two leads for the Griffins all game. The Griffins other edge came at the 15:59 mark of the first half after Justin Knight sunk a three to give Gwynedd-Mercy the 9-8 lead.

Immaculata gained the advantage back 21 seconds later on a Smith tip-in, and never gave the lead back to Gwynedd-Mercy. The Griffins were able to stay close, even tying the score at 23-all 7:15 remaining in the first half.

From that point, the Mighty Macs seized control of the game through a 13-0 run that put them on top, 36-23, with 3:33 left before halftime. Immaculata's 13-0 run was just the beginning of a 27-8 spurt that gave the Mighty Macs' their largest lead of the opening half, 50-31, with 14 seconds remaining. Gwynedd-Mercy was able to sink a shot as time expired to trail 50-33 at intermission.

Immaculata continued to dominate in the second half, running its lead to as much as 25 (75-50) midway through the stanza. Gwynedd-Mercy was able to whittle away at the Immaculata lead during the final five minutes of the contest, but it ultimately proved too late.

Immaculata led, 82-69, with 2:15 left in the contest and the Mighty Macs' 10-for-12 performance from the charity stripe during the final 2:07 sealed the win. Torres and Davenport each were 5-for-6 from the line.

Brandyn Wims led the Griffins with 23 points while Knight added 18 points and a team-best eight rebounds.

Immaculata finished the game 30-for-51 (.588) from the field and 29-for-41 from the foul line. Gwynedd-Mercy shot 41.8 percent (28-67) from the field and 64.3 percent (18-28) from the free throw line.
