IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata University women's basketball team has earned the No. 3 seed in the 2012 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament and will host a quarterfinal round contest at Alumnae Hall on Monday evening, Feb. 20, at 7 p.m.
The Mighty Macs (14-11, 12-4 CSAC) will take on the sixth-seeded Neumann University Knights (11-14, 10-6 CSAC). The two teams split the regular season meetings with Neumann winning, 80-78, in overtime, and the Mighty Macs winning their home game against the Knights, 69-61. The two squads are familiar foes in the CSAC Tournament, meeting in the championship game just a season ago as Neumann edged Immaculata, 66-60, to claim its second straight CSAC title.
Immaculata is making its third-straight postseason appearance and its sixth trip to the playoffs in the last nine seasons. It marks the second-straight year the Mighty Macs have hosted a home playoff game, as third-seeded Immaculata defeated No. 6 Centenary, 87-59, in the first round of the 2011 CSAC Tournament. Immaculata then traveled to Scranton, Pa., knocking off No. 2 Marywood, 78-64, in the semifinals. Immaculata was then defeated by top-seeded and eventual CSAC champion Neumann in the championship game.
Tickets for the Colonial States Athletic Conference Quarterfinal can be purchased at the door to the Alumnae Hall gymnasium for $5. Immaculata University students get in free with a valid student ID.
In the league's other quarterfinal game on Monday evening, No. 4 Marywood will host No. 5-seed Cabrini at 7 p.m.
The winners of Monday's contests will travel to either top-seeded Gwynedd-Mercy or second-place finisher Baptist Bible for the CSAC semifinals on Wednesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. The Colonial States Athletic Conference Championship Game will be held on Saturday, Feb. 25, at the highest remaining seed. The winner of that championship game receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
