IMMACULATA, Pa. –
Nelson Torres scored a game-high 18 points, including the 1,000 point of his career, as Immaculata University men's basketball celebrated Senior Day on Saturday with a 59-53 victory over Rosemont College in Colonial States Athletic Conference play.
The Mighty Macs improve to 8-15 overall and 6-10 in the conference, and the win keeps Immaculata's playoffs hopes alive. Rosemont fell to 12-12 overall, 8-9 in the CSAC.
Torres finished with 18 points, including an 8-for-11 effort from the free throw line, and six rebounds.
Rob Siter added 16 points and a team-high eight rebounds.
Mark Davenport had eight points and five rebounds, and
Kendall Peters also chipped in eight points.
It was a back-and-forth affair for the entire first half. Immaculata scored the first four points of the game, and continued to hold a four-point edge (8-4) as Torres hit a jumper at the 15:55 mark for the 1,000
th point of his career. However, a 7-0 run by the Ravens gave the visitors their first advantage of the contest, 11-9, with 11:33 to play.
Neither squad was able to gain more than a four-point edge during the remainder first half. The score was tied for the fourth time in the game at halftime, 20-20, as Torres sunk two free throws with 0.3 seconds left in the half for the Mighty Macs.
The see-saw game included during the first seven minutes of the second half as each team built four-point leads before the other rallied back. The game was knotted for the seventh time at 32-all at the 13:12 mark, and Rosemont went up by one (33-32) after Dan Kearney made his second foul shot.
Immaculata then made a 16-2 run during 6:19 to push its margin to the largest of the contest, 48-35, with 6:39 left to play. Torres and Siter each had six points while Davenport added the other four points during the spurt.
Rosemont cut its deficit to five (50-45) on a 10-2 run of its own, but was not able to overcome the run the Mighty Macs had put together. Immaculata sealed the win with a 7 of 10 effort from the free throw line during the final 1:05 of the contest.
Justin Chaney led the Ravens with 15 points while DeAndre Jordan netted 13 points. Harrison Carsillo recorded a double-double for Rosemont with 10 points and a game-best 14 rebounds.
Immaculata heads to Marywood on Monday, Feb. 13 at 8 p.m. in another must-win game for the Mighty Macs.
