Neumann Slips Past Immaculata, 67-63

IMMACULATA, Pa. – Neumann University slipped past Immaculata University, 67-63, on Wednesday night in men's basketball Colonial States Athletic Conference play inside Alumnae Hall.
 
Immaculata (6-14, 4-9 CSAC) placed three scorers in double figures led by 15 points from Rob Siter. Siter finished with a double-double adding 10 rebounds, four assists and five steals. Nelson Torres finished with 14 points, and Mark Davenport chipped in 12 points. Brandon Smith also had nine points, and Kendall Peters and Todd Stokley each grabbed seven rebounds.  
 
Immaculata trailing Neumann from the 5:14 mark of the first half until it tied the game at 49-all with 11:38 left in the contest. After the Knights went back up by three, the Mighty Macs again tied the score at 52-52 with 8:06 left. Immaculata took its first lead of the contest at the 6:29 mark when Siter went in for a layup, but Neumann answered just 25 seconds later.
 
The contest went back-and-forth until just inside four minutes when Siter sunk the first of a pair of free throws giving Immaculata a one-point edge, 59-58. Neumann regained the lead (60-59) with 3:05 left as Mark Blount had a layup. Immaculata trailed by three, 64-61, with one minute left in regulation, but Neumann sealed the win going 3 of 4 from the free throw line.
 
Neumann jumped out to a 6-1 lead during the first four minutes of the contest, and the Knights maintained a five-point lead until seven minutes remaining in the opening half.
 
Terrance Clark connected on both his free throw attempts to put Neumann in front, 19-14, at the 6:59 mark. Immaculata then knotted the score at 19-all after Torres knocked down two free throws and Siter made a layup and foul shot on the three-point play.
 
Neumann extended its lead to six (28-22), the largest of the opening half with 1:47 left in the stanza. Immaculata, however, had back-to-back three pointers from Davenport sandwiched around a Neumann layup to trail just 30-28 at halftime.
 
Blount finished with a double-double for Neumann (10-11, 7-7 CSAC) with 17 points, 10 rebounds and six blocks. Mike Walukiewicz had 14 points and Terrance Clark added 12 points.
 
Immaculata heads to Gwynedd-Mercy on Saturday for a 4 p.m. tip with the Griffins.
