Sara Smith led Immaculata University with eight points on the night, but host Cabrini College was too strong, pulling away for a 73-52 Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) women's basketball victory Wednesday night.
Immaculata (3-4, 2-1 CSAC) dropped its first league contest of the year while Cabrini (4-2, 2-0) remained perfect in league play.
The Mighty Macs pulled within 13 points (61-48) with 4:10 left in the game. However, the Cavaliers made four of their final five shots from the field and were perfect on all four free throw attempts to keep the lead in double figures.
Immaculata was within nine points late in the first half when Cabrini held the Mighty Macs scoreless over a span of 4:37 and expanded its lead to 35-17 at the break.
Both
Chrissy Esbensen and
Meghan Gallagher scored seven points. Esbensen led Immaculata with four rebounds.
The Cavaliers' Amber Keys led all scorers with 20 points and posted a double-double with 11 rebounds. Annie Rivituso added 11 points.
Immaculata will be back in action on Saturday with another CSAC matchup against Centenary (N.J.) at home at 2 p.m.
