IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's women's basketball team won its second-straight game by topping Penn State Berks, 68-37, in non-conference action Wednesday night inside Alumnae Hall.
Immaculata's (2-3)
Jackie Deegler poured in a game-high 25 points and led the Mighty Macs with five rebounds.
Alison Zimny finished with eight points, while
Lindsay Cras had seven and
Sara Smith posted six points.
Chrissy Esbensen,
Katie Durkin and
Allison Murphy each made four steals.
Immaculata held the lead start-to-finish as the Mighty Macs won the opening tip and scored 10 seconds into the game. Immaculata got ahead by nine points, 14-5, at the 14:59 mark, and the Mighty Macs controlled the rest of the contest. The Mighty Macs held their largest advantage of the first half with 10:27 remaining (24-7), but the Nittany Lions were unable to cut their deficit to single digits. Immaculata finally settled to a 13-point halftime lead, 30-17.
The Mighty Macs continued to push their edge in the early going of the second half, but the final margin (68-37) was their largest lead of the contest.
Immaculata was able to capitalize on 37 turnovers by Penn State Berks, which led directly to 34 Immaculata points. The Mighty Macs were also strong when they drove to the basket, posting 36 points in the paint.
Fatime Rone led the Nittany Lions (0-4) with 11 points. Sherrie Satchel led all players with 15 rebounds and added nine points.
Immaculata continues its four-game homestand on Monday, Dec. 3, hosting Cairn at 6 p.m. in a Colonial States Athletic Conference game.
