Late Rowan Run Sinks Immaculata

BOX SCORE

GLASSBORO
, N.J.-The Immaculata men's basketball team (0-4) took to the road looking for their first victory of the 2012-13 season at Rowan (4-0), but a second half run turned a tie game into a Rowan lead that the Profs would not relinquish in a 73-63 Rowan win.  Three Mighty Macs registered double digit points led by senior Nelson Torres with 13 points, junior Brandon Smith with 12, and junior Adam Jones with a career-high 11.

In the first half, Immaculata used a heavy barrage of three pointers to establish their offense early.  Out of their ten first half field goals, six were from beyond the arc with all six coming from a different player.  Jones hit a three to get the scoring started and freshman Tyreek Peeples (3 points, team-high 4 assists) hit a three to keep the Mighty Macs just one point down early in the game.

However, Immaculata went on a 7-0 run over the next two minutes to take a 9-6 deficit and turn it into a 13-9 advantage with four points coming from Smith and three from Torres.

The teams exchanged baskets over the next few minutes before the Profs went on a 10-0 run to go up 28-21 before T.J. Klinger hit a three to put a halt to the run with three minutes remaining.  At the break, Rowan held a 34-30 lead paced by Jason Rosenberg with 11 and Rich McNamara with 8.  Klinger, Torres, and Kendall Peters had 5 points each at halftime.

The Mighty Macs came out hot to start the second half with a 12-4 run over the first four minutes to take a four point advantage on the strength of Jones and Smith.  Jones scored six of his career-high 11 in the first four minutes of the second half.  Rowan would tie the game before Torres hit a three pointer to put the Mighty Macs up three, but Rosenberg responded with a three-point play to tie the game again as each team refused to budge.

Rowan then went on the 9-1 game-changing run over a three and a half minute stretch to take a 56-48 lead with 9:38 to go in the game.  Peters finally put a halt to the run with his second three of the game to trim the deficit to five with nine minutes remaining.

After a Profs' basket, Torres hit two consecutive jumpers to trim the Rowan advantage to three points, but McNamara (17 points) hit a three to put Rowan back up 61-55 with six minutes left.

Rowan would then keep Immaculata at arms length for the remainder of the game.  A jumper by freshman Lou Dominique cut the Rowan lead to four points, but Rowan hit their free throws down the stretch to close out the 73-63 victory.

The Mighty Macs hit a season-high 8 three-pointers in defeat.

Immaculata falls to 1-6 in program history against Rowan and the Mighty Macs will look to get into the win column Thursday night at Penn State-Berks at 6 p.m. before their first conference game Monday night when they host Rosemont.
