BOX SCORE
FREDERICK, Md.-The Immaculata men's basketball team (0-3) travelled to Hood (2-1) for a first ever meeting between the two schools and the Blazers came away with a 64-44 non-conference victory. Hood used a 25-6 run to open up a comfortable lead over the first 7:33 of the second half. Freshman Lou Dominique and senior
T.J. Klinger led the Mighty Macs in points with 8 apiece.
The Blazers started the game on an 8-0 run, but Immaculata battled throughout the first half to keep the game close. Trailing 10-1, the Mighty Macs used a 7-0 run of their own to close the gap to two points. Junior
Jerod Cain, Klinger, and seniors
Todd Stokley and
Nelson Torres all had buckets during the stretch to stop the early Blazer momentum.
The teams traded baskets over the next few minutes and Stokley hit a lay-up with 6:35 remaining in the half to cut the lead to as small as one, but the Mighty Macs were unable to jump in front as game-high scorer Cameron Cook (23 points) knocked down a couple free throws to keep Hood in the lead. The Mighty Macs trailed by a score of 22-18 heading into intermission.
Coming out of the break after a Blazer three, Dominique scored two of his eight second half points to keep it at a five-point ballgame, but Hood went on a 23-4 run in just under 7 minutes to give them a comfortable 47-24 lead with 12:27 remaining in the game.
Immaculata then battled for the remainder of the game with Klinger and Dominique adding to their team-high totals, but in the end the second half run was too much to overcome in the 64-44 non-conference defeat.
Torres finished the game with 7 points and Stokley followed with 6 of his own.
The Mighty Macs outrebounded the Blazers 39-33 with junior
Brandon Smith leading the way on the glass with six boards.
The Mighty Macs will be back in action next Monday when they travel to Rowan for a non-conference game at 7 p.m.
