Women’s Basketball Battles to 47-41 Win Over Cabrini

IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata University remains undefeated in the Colonial States Athletic Conference with today's 47-41 win versus Cabrini College.  The win improves the Mighty Macs to 7-6 overall and 5-0 in the CSAC while Cabrini drops to 6-6 overall and 4-1 in the league.

Immaculata posted an early lead and would lead as many as 13 points with eight minutes remaining in the first half. Cabrini's MaryKate McCann drained a three-pointer at the 5:15 mark to cut the lead to six but Katie Durkin answered with a three-pointer of her own to send the Mighty Macs into halftime with a 27-20 advantage.

Cabrini started the second half with a 7-2 run and would tie the game 32-all with 13 minutes remaining in the second half.  After a three-pointer from Welz the Mighty Macs went on an 8-4 run, leading by five points with less than six minutes to play. The Cavaliers cut their lead to one, 42-41, at the 3:10 minute mark but Welz paced the Mighty Macs with five points in the remaining three minutes to claim the victory.

Welz finished the game with a team-high 12 points, nine rebounds, and three steals. Durkin netted a career-high 10 points and six rebounds while Leak Kuczynski pulled down a team-best 12 boards. 

Annie Rivituso led Cabrini with 11 points and seven rebounds while Brittany Sandone totaled nine points in the loss. Colleen Stewart pulled down a team-high eight rebounds.

Immaculata is back in action Wed., Jan. 11 facing rival Neumann at 6 p.m. in Aston, Pa.
