IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University's men's basketball team was unable to rally late in the second half as visiting Cabrini College defeated the Mighty Macs, 87-81, in Colonial States Athletic Conference action at Alumnae Hall.
Rob Siter scored a game-high 29 points and added six assists and five rebounds to pace the Mighty Macs.
Nelson Torres finished with 22 points and five rebounds, and
T.J. Klinger added 11 points, four rebounds and three assists.
The Mighty Macs (4-9, 2-4 CSAC) outscored the Cavaliers (11-1, 6-0 CSAC), 48-42, during the second half, but Immaculata could not overcome Cabrini's 45-33 lead at halftime.
The Cavaliers' led by as many as 15 with 6:37 remaining in the game, and the Mighty Macs chipped away at the advantage to trim it to just three points (82-79) with 15 seconds left in the game. However, Cabrini was 5-for-6 down the final stretch to avoid its first conference loss of the season.
After being down 45-33 at halftime, Immaculata opened the second half on an 11-2 run, including 11 consecutive points, to cut its deficit to 47-44 at the 14:27 mark. Cabrini responded with a 12-2 run of its own to push the margin back to 13 (59-46) with 12:01 to play in the contest.
Immaculata held its only lead of the game at the 16:45 mark of the first half as Klinger sunk a three to put the Mighty Macs ahead, 8-7. Cabrini retook the edge with 15:16 left in the first, but Immaculata was able to keep the game within reach. The Mighty Macs were down by three, 24-21, with 7:16 remaining in the stanza when the Cavaliers put together a 12-4 run to extend their advantage to double digits for the first time, 36-25, at the 4:08 mark.
Cory Lemons finished with a team-best 19 points, eight rebounds, seven assists and three steals for Cabrini. Goran Dulac recorded a double-double with 12 points and 10 rebounds. In all, five Cabrini players registered double-digit points as AJ Williams and Jeremy Knowles had 15 apiece and Jon Miller added 11 points.
Immaculata travels to Baptist Bible on Monday, Jan. 9, for a CSAC contest with the Defenders at 8 p.m.
