Softball Run Ends Friday Against Centenary and Neumann

DRIFTON, Pa.
– Immaculata University's softball run in the CSAC Championships ended Friday afternoon with losses to Centenary, 4-1, and Neumann, 8-5, at the Drifton Sport Complex.

The No. 3 seed Mighty Macs (21-12) played the second-seeded Cyclones (27-10) in the first game of the day, falling 4-1. Centenary scored one run in the bottom of the fourth and added three more runs in the fifth to a 4-0 lead. Immaculata scored its only run in the top of the seventh.

Jenny Barnholt led the Mighty Macs with two hits in the first game. Holly Schell had one hit and drove in one run. Dana Bozzetto, Danielle Palmisano and Sara Holleran also all had one hit.  

Palmisano suffered the loss in the circle giving up three earned runs on eight hits in four innings. Nicole Curcione pitched the final two innings allowing just two hits and no runs.

Centenary's Kristin Durborow picked up the win lasting four innings. She stuck out five and have up just four hits. Meagan Madsen earned the save for her three innings of work in which she struck out four, allowed two hits and one run.

The Mighty Macs then played Neumann (28-12) in an elimination game later in the afternoon with the Knights staying alive, 8-5.

Immaculata pushed one run across the plate in the first for the early 1-0 lead. But, Neumann struck in the bottom of the second for two runs and had four more runs in the third for the 6-1 advantage.

The Mighty Macs got one run back in the top of the fourth to cut the Knights' lead to 6-2. However, Neumann added two insurance runs in the sixth inning.

Immaculata didn't go down quietly, scoring three runs in the top of the seventh making it 8-5, but could not complete the comeback.

Schell had two hits, two runs scored and one RBI against Neumann. Mindy Monastra also had a two-hit afternoon, including a double, with one RBI, and Meagan Fitzgerald also had a pair of hits with one being a double. Bozzetto hit a homerun, had two RBI and scored once. Holleran had one hit and one RBI, and Barnholt had one run and scored one run.

Fitzgerald took the loss allowing six runs on eight hits in three innings for the Mighty Macs. Curcione pitched the final three innings allowing five hits and two runs.

Neumann's Brittany Campbell pitched a complete game giving up nine hits and five runs for the win.
