ASTON, Pa- The Immaculata University softball squad claimed a split with Neumann University on Wednesday afternoon. After falling in the opener to the Knights 2-1, the Mighty Macs put up a 6-5 showing in game two.
Immaculata now sits at 7-7 overall and 4-2 in the CSAC. Neumann is 10-10 on the season and 4-2 in the conference.
In game one, both teams were quiet until Megan Fitzgerald scored a single run and Immaculata's only run of the game. Neumann answered scoring two runs in the sixth to take a 2-1 lead.
Fitzgerald, Holly Schell, Dana Bozetto, and Jenny Barnholt each had one hit while Bozetto added one RBI in the loss.
Fitzgerald pitched a complete game in the loss. She allowed just two runs on six hits. She walked two and struck out seven.
In game two, the Mighty Macs took a 4-0 lead in the first inning. The Knights got two back in bottom of the first and two more in the third to tie the game.
Bozetto doubled and advanced to third on the throw scoring Schell and Fitzgerald to take the lead again, 6-4. Neumann's homerun in the fifth cut the lead, 6-5, but Immaculata stole the win.
Danielle Palmisano (4-3) went the distance in the circle surrendering 12 hits and striking out four.
Schell went 3-for-4 with two runs scored while Bozetto tallied one hit and a team-high two RBI. Mindy Monastra collected two hits and one RBI.
Immaculata returns home on Friday to host Rosemont for a CSAC doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
