Softball Sweeps Notre Dame On Senior Day

IMMACULATA, Pa.
– Immaculata University swept its softball regular-season home finale against College of Notre Dame on Friday afternoon in a pair of five-inning games. The Mighty Macs won the opener, 15-2, and shut the Gators out in game two, 11-0. The afternoon also marked Senior Day for three Immaculata players.

Immaculata improves to 18-10 overall and 15-5 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference. College of Notre Dame slips to 4-19, 1-16 CSAC after the losses.

Immaculata scattered 17 hits in game one led by three hits from both Holly Schell and Sara Holleran. Dana Bozzetto, Julia Lamplugh and Allison Zborowski all had a two-hit game, and Lamplugh, Zborowski and Holleran all had two RBI. Zborowski pitched the complete game to get her fourth win this season. She gave up four hits, walked three and struck out three while allowing the two runs.

The Mighty Macs did most of their damage in the first two innings, posting five runs in the first and six more in the second. After the Gators scored in the top of the fourth, Immaculata had another big inning, plating four runs in the bottom half of the fourth.

Kirsten Smulovitz pitched all four innings for the Gators, allowing 17 hits, 12 earned runs, three walks and one strikeout.

In the nightcap, Immaculata scored in every inning, including four runs in the bottom of the third and fourth innings. Immaculata scored one run in the first as Schell homered on the first pitch to lead things off for the Mighty Macs.

Immaculata added two more runs in the second Nicole Curcione led off the inning with a single and later scored off a RBI single by Meagan Fitzgerald. McKenzie Brown, who followed Curcione with a walk, scored the Mighty Macs' other run on a RBI by Danielle Palmisano.

The Mighty Macs scored each of its four runs in the third and fourth on just three hits. Schell had a two-out double to plate Megan Gallagher and Brown in the third. In the fourth, Lamplugh started things off with a double and scored on a RBI single by Holleran.

Schell, Holleran and Katie Schreck all had two hits in game two, and Schell had a game-best three RBI. Fitzgerald had one hit and one RBI. Curcione pitched the complete-game shutout to earn her third win this season and improve to 3-2. She allowed three hits, didn't walk another anyone and struck out nine batters.

Amber Lovejoy took the loss in the circle for College of Notre Dame. She allowed 10 earned runs on nine hits, walked six and struck out just one.

Immaculata concludes the regular season tomorrow at Gwynedd-Mercy with first pitch set for noon.
