IMMACULATA, Pa.- The Immaculata softball team suffered a two-game sweep at the hands of conference opponent Baptist Bible College Wednesday afternoon. The Defenders captured a 2-1 win in game one before a 14-6 victory in game two.
Baptist Bible (15-9, 8-6) would get all the runs they would need in the top half of the first, scoring twice to hold on to the 2-1 victory.
Mindy Monastra scored the lone run in the fourth inning for the Mighty Macs while
Dana Bozzetto recorded the only two hits of game one.
Megan Fitzgerald (3-5) tossed a complete game for the loss. She surrendered one earned run, struck out three, and scattered four hits. Kacee Rava (9-2) also went the distance allowing eight hits while striking out one batter.
In the nightcap, Immaculata (12-10, 9-5) answered to the Defenders one run scored in the first inning by knocking in four unearned runs in the second and a single in the third.
Baptist Bible opened the gates at the top of the fifth tallying six runs on seven hits before adding two more in the sixth to take a 10-5 lead over the Mighty Macs.
Danielle Palmisano and
Allison Zborowski both went 2-for-4 at the plate while Palmisano had a team-high three RBI. Bozzetto finished 2-for-3, scoring one run and had one RBI.
Sara Holleran, Nikki Curcione, and
Holly Schell each had one hit for a total of nine team hits.
Bozzetto hit an RBI double that scored Curcione for a single run at the bottom of the sixth but Baptist Bible blasted four more runs in the seventh to take the 14-6 win.
Palmisano started in the circle and allowed eight runs on 11 hits in five innings. Curcione pitched the final two innings and took the loss for the Mighty Macs. She gave up six runs, only two of which were earned, on eight hits.
Immaculata returns to play on Monday hosting CSAC opponent Cabrini College at 3 p.m.
