IMMACULATA, Pa.- Immaculata University won both ends of its doubleheader against Penn State Abington on Thursday evening. The Mighty Macs took game one, 7-4 in eight innings, and won the nightcap in six innings, 18-3.
Immaculata earned its first victory of the season improving to a 2-4 overall record while the Nittany Lions drop 0-8 this season.
The Mighty Macs had taken the early lead and held Penn State Abington scoreless until its two runs in the fourth inning and a single in the sixth to cut the lead, 3-2. Both teams went quietly in the seventh, but Immaculata tacked on four runs in the final inning to seal the win.
Nikki Curcione went 4-for-5 while Mindy Monastra had three hits in four trips, scored two runs and had two RBI. Dana Bozetto also plated two runs in the victory.
Julia Lamplugh and
Katherine Schreck each picked up two hits in game one.
Nikki Curcione got the win in the circle for Immaculata allowing eight hits and three unearned runs in 6.0 innings of work. Allison Zbrowski earned the save pitching the last 2.0 innings only allowing two hits and one run. She struck out two and didn't walk a batter.
Sheila O'Hagan suffered the loss for the Nittany Lions after allowing 14 hits and five earned.
In the nightcap, Immaculata scored seven runs in the fifth and nine runs in the sixth to keep the game out of reach for the Nittany Lions.
Danielle Palmisano (1-1) pitched all 6.0 innings allowing eight hits and striking out six.
Jenny Barnholt went 5-for-5 with three RBI and two runs scored.

Dana Bozzetto were 3-for-5 with two runs scored each. Palmisano also had four RBI.
Immaculata returns to play on March 22 hosting Franklin & Marshall for a doubleheader beginning at 3 p.m.
