Neumann Last-Second Shot Downs Immaculata Men

IMMACULATA, Pa.
- Immaculata University men's basketball dropped 60-59 decision to Neumann University on Monday evening in Colonial States Athletic Conference play. The visiting Knights had a put-back with 0.5 seconds remaining to lift Neumann past the host Mighty Macs.

The Mighty Macs dropped to 9-12 on the season and 7-7 within the conference. The Knights improve to 11-10 overall, 8-6 CSAC.

The Mighty Macs placed three players in double figures. Rob Siter led Immaculata with 23 points. Nelson Torres chipped in with 13 points to go along with nine rebounds and four assists. Darnell Malabet rounded out the group with 15 points.

In a first half that saw Neumann jump out to an early 15-3 lead, powered by an 11-0 run to start the contest, Immaculata was fight its way back into the game and trail just 31-25 at halftime. The Mighty Macs fought their way back in the second half as the game turned into a see-saw battle.

With 40 seconds left, Immaculata trailed 56-54 when Siter hit the first of two free throws, cutting the lead to one (56-55). After a pair of free throws by Patrick O'Connor, the Knights held a 58-55 lead. Siter answered with a layup down at the other end cutting the lead back to one (58-57).

After a Neumann turnover, Siter hit a jumper to put the Macs ahead, 59-58, with just 10.4 seconds left. On the ensuing possession, Neumann's Mike Walukiewicz missed a jumper only to have Mark Blount gather the rebound and lay in a go-ahead field goal with less than a second remaining. Immaculata never got off a shot and the Knights emerged victorious.

Neumann placed two players in double figures. O'Connor finished with a double-double registering 24 points and 13 rebounds. Blount was the other finishing with 11 points including the game winning put-back.

In their next matchup, the Mighty Macs travel to Centenary on Thursday evening at 7 p.m.
