Immaculata Stumbles Against Cabrini

- Immaculata University's women's basketball team stumbled on the road Thursday evening at Cabrini, 80-61, in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

Bridget Welz tied her career-high with 24 points and added five rebounds to lead all Mighty Mac scorers. Chrissy Esbensen added 10 points and four assists, while Leah Kuczynski also chipped in 10 points and a team-high six rebounds. Chelsea McTigue finished with nine points and five rebounds in the effort.

Immaculata (13-7, 8-3 CSAC) trailed midway through the first half, 15-11, when Cabrini scored eight straight points in just 1:16 to push its advantage to 23-11 with 9:16 remaining in the opening half. The Cavaliers continued to extend the margin, holding a 32-16 edge with 3:48 left in the stanza, when the Mighty Macs staged a 10-2 run at end the first half, and Immaculata trailed just 34-26 at halftime.

Cabrini (7-13, 6-5 CSAC) used several spurts throughout the second half to pull away. The Cavaliers used a key 11-2 run over a five-minute span at the midway point of the second stanza that made Cabrini's advantage 63-44 with 5:43 to play.

The Mighty Macs finished the game sinking five three-pointers during the final 3:53, including three treys from Welz, to make the final margin 80-61.

Immaculata and Cabrini were both 7 of 17 (.412) from three-point range for the contest, while the Mighty Macs were 22-for-51 (.431) from the field.

Cabrini was led by Laura Caron's 24 points and eight assists.

Immaculata returns home on Saturday afternoon hosting Rosemont College at 1 p.m.
