IMMACULATA, Pa. – The Immaculata University men's basketball team clinched the No. 6 seed in the 2011 Colonial States Athletic Conference Tournament on Thursday evening with its 80-72 win against Philadelphia Biblical University.
The Mighty Macs (10-15, 8-10 CSAC) earned the final spot in the conference tournament and will travel to La Plume, Pa., on Saturday afternoon to take on the No. 3-seed Keystone College Giants (20-5, 13-5 CSAC) at 3 p.m.. In the other quarterfinal contest, No. 4 Neumann will host No. 5-seed Marywood also at 3 p.m. Saturday.
Keystone swept Immaculata in the two regular-season meetings this year, and the Giants most recently defeated the Mighty Macs just five days ago on Monday night, 70-61. The Mighty Macs lost to the Giants, 51-46, on December 4 at Alumnae Hall.
Immaculata has a 5-2 record when it reaches conference tournament play, but the Mighty Macs have not faced Keystone in the postseason during the Giants' two seasons in the CSAC. Keystone has advanced to the CSAC Tournament during each of the past two campaigns, claiming a second seed last year, losing its semifinal game. During the 2009 tournament, the Giants were the No. 3 seed and won their quarterfinal contest, before falling in the semifinal round.
The winners of Saturday's quarterfinal contests will travel to either top-seeded Cabrini or second-place finisher Gwynedd-Mercy for the CSAC semifinals on Tuesday, February 22 at 7 p.m. The Colonial States Athletic Conference championship game will be held on Friday, Feb. 25, at the highest remaining seed. The winner of that championship game receives an automatic bid to the NCAA Division III Tournament.
