Rowan's Late Rally Tops Mighty Macs, 68-65

Box Score

GLASSBORO, N.J. –
Rowan's Erin Farrell hit a free throw with 39 seconds left, and Lauren Creel converted a layup on the fast break with under 10 seconds remaining to help the host Profs hold off visiting Immaculata University, 68-65, in a non-league women's basketball game Monday evening.

Immaculata (5-3), who trailed by as many as 13 points midway through the second half, chipped away at the Rowan (4-4) advantage and eventually took its first lead of the game (62-61) since the early moments on a jumper by Kelly Brown with 3:28 to go.

After Lauren Gregg and Brianna Duffin exchanged layups, Leah Kuczynski gave the Mighty Macs a 65-63 lead with under two minutes to play. However, Creel scored four of the next five points as Rowan closed out the contest on a 5-0 run.

Brown finished with a team-high 13 points and grabbed nine rebounds, missing a double-double by just one board. Duffin posted a game-high 10 rebounds and was one point shy of a double-double. Chrissy Esbensen poured in 12 points and had five steals.

Brown fueled Immaculata's 23-9 spurt late in the second half with seven points. However, the Mighty Macs' long-range shooting was the key as four different players connected from downtown to spark the rally.

Rowan went on a 20-7 run over the last seven minutes of the first half to open up a 10-point lead at the break. The game had gone back-and-forth to that point with the Prof's largest lead reaching six. That is when the hosts opened up a lead and carried the momentum into the locker room at halftime.

Lauren Gregg led Rowan in both scoring and rebounding with 18 points and eight rebounds.

Immaculata returns home on Wednesday for a CSAC contest with Notre Dame of Maryland University in Alumnae Hall at 7 p.m.
