Women's Basketball Rolls Past Centenary, 78-66

– Immaculata University's women's basketball team defeated Centenary College on Saturday afternoon, 78-66, in Colonial States Athletic Conference action as four Mighty Mac players scored in double figures.
 
Immaculata, which improved to 5-2, 3-0 in the CSAC, was led by 22 points and seven rebounds from Bridget Welz. Leah Kuczynski and Chrissy Esbensen each finished with 14 points while Kuczynski had five rebounds and Esbensen had four boards to go along with their point totals. Kelly Brown rounded at the group with 10 points, seven rebounds and five assists. The Mighty Macs were led on the glass by Sara Smith who had a game-high 12 rebounds and eight points.
 
Immaculata jumped ahead of Centenary from the start, leading 9-1 at the 14:40 mark of the first half. Welz had five points and Kuczynski had four points during the run for the Mighty Macs. Centenary cut the lead to 12-9 at the 12-minute mark, but Immaculata put together a 12-4 run to extend its lead to 24-13 with 8:30 remaining in the first half.
 
The last time Immaculata's lead was in single digits came with 6:37 remaining in the opening half, 26-17, and Immaculata headed into the locker room at halftime ahead, 36-23.
 
The Mighty Macs held their largest lead of the contest (76-47) with 4:42 to play in the game as Immaculata used a 16-6 spurt during a span of 5:27 to extend upon a 19-point advantage (60-41) at the 10:09 mark. Centenary made a late run during the final four minutes to make the final score a 12-point game.
 
Centenary (5-1, 1-1 CSAC) was led by Melissa Kukoda's 11 points while Bridget McCann had nine rebounds.
 
Immaculata hosts Notre Dame (Md.) on Wednesday at 7 p.m. at Alumnae Hall.
