READING, Pa.- Immaculata University placed three players in double figures en route to a 86-57 win against host Penn State Berks on Tuesday night in a non-conference women's basketball tilt in Reading, Pa.
Bridget Welz led the way for the Mighty Macs with 16 points, two steals, and four assists. Kelly Brown finished with 13 points and five rebounds while Leah Kuczynski was the other Immaculata player to record double-digits with 10 points, and a team-high five rebounds. Jackie Deegler also chipped in seven points and four rebounds. Mackie Fitzgerald and Sara Smith rounded out the group with six points a piece. In total, 16 different Mighty Macs scored in the victory.
Immaculata set the pace early as it opened the contest on an 22-2 run during the first five minutes and would not look back the remainder of the contest. The Mighty Macs finished the first stanza with a 23-11 run to take a 28 point edge into halftime.
Immaculata increased its lead to 35 (57-22) just over four minutes into the second half, outscoring Penn State Berks, 7-1. The closest the Nittany Lions came the rest of the way was 75-54 with 3:20 to play in the contest.
Penn State Berks was paced by Fatima Rone's 10 points while Ashley Kenny pulled a team-high 10 rebounds for the Lions.
Immaculata hosts Cedar Crest on Monday, Nov. 28, for its home opener and its first Colonial States Athletic Conference contest of the 2011-12 slate. Tip-off is slated for 6 p.m.
