IMMACULATA, Pa. – Immaculata University men's basketball lost its Colonial States Athletic Conference opener to Marywood University on Tuesday night in overtime, 72-69.
Marywood's Matt Lepri put in a layup with 2.6 seconds remaining in regulation to tie the score at 66-66, and force the contest into overtime.
Tyrone Baker began the overtime stanza 2-for-2 from the foul line to give the Pacers a 68-66 lead just 17 seconds into the period.
Jeffone Hill made a layup at the other end for the Mighty Macs to knot the score against at 68-all at the 4:21 mark. However, after James Lavan hit a jumper with 3:54 to play to lift Marywood ahead, 70-68, the Pacers never gave the lead away.
Marywood (2-2, 1-0 CSAC) had taken the lead (64-63) with 38.2 seconds remaining in regulation when Pierre Bakinde made a layup. Immaculata answered with 10.1 left on the clock as
Jarrell Gardner drained a three-pointer to give the Mighty Macs a 66-64 advantage.
It was a back-and-forth affair throughout the entire game. The first half saw three ties and three lead changes before Marywood took a 31-30 egde into halftime. The second half was even more swings as it produced 11 lead changes and four ties.
Gardner chipped in a game-high 17 points and seven rebounds for the Mighty Macs (1-3, 0-1 CSAC).
Todd Stokley finished with 14 points and three steals while Hill had 11 points and three assists.
Nelson Torres added 10 points.
T.J. Klinger recorded six points, six rebounds and four assists.
The Pacers had five scorers reach double figures led by 15 points and 10 rebounds from Lepri. Baker finished with 13 points while Brent Keyes and Matt Tintle each had 11 points, and Bakinde recorded 10 points and eight rebounds.
Immaculata continues CSAC play on Monday, Nov. 28, playing host to Philadelphia Biblical University at 8 p.m. at Alumnae Hall.
