Men's Basketball Tripped Up By Haverford, 71-63

HAVERFORD, Pa. – Despite outscoring the host Fords during the second half, visiting Immaculata University men's basketball fell to Haverford College on Monday evening, 71-63, in non-conference play.

The Mighty Macs (3-7) placed three players in double figures, led by Robert Siter's 19 points. Kendall Peters finished with 11 points and Darnell Malabet chipped in 10. Brandon Smith grabbed a team-best six rebounds while Siter added five boards. Todd Stokley had eight points, and Eric Barefield dished out five assists. 

Immaculata had the early lead (5-2) three minutes into the game, but Haverford reeled off a 13-2 run to put the Fords ahead, 15-7, with 12:21 remaining in the opening stanza. The Mighty Macs came back to knot the score at 22-all with 5:48 left before halftime as Peters sunk a three-pointer. Malabet had eight of his 10 points during Immaculata's run to tie up the contest.

Haverford ended the first half outscoring Immaculata 13-4, and the Fords had a 35-26 lead at the break.

The Fords never lost their lead during the second half, seeing it grow to 16 (43-27) just three minutes into the second stanza.

The Mighty Macs made a run to get back into the game midway through the half, outscoring the Fords 14-3 over a five-minute span to come within four points (55-51) with 6:11 to play. Immaculata trimmed the deficit to three points twice, but was unable to come any closer as Haverford held on for the win.

Haverford's Sam Permutt had game highs in both points and rebounds with his double-double of 24 points and 19 boards. Cam Baker also added 20 points in the effort for the Fords.

Immaculata is off until Monday, January 10, when it returns to CSAC action traveling to Baptist Bible at 8 p.m.
