Immaculata Women Come Up Short Against Marywood

IMMACULATA, Pa.-  Immaculata University's women's basketball team dropped a 61-56 decision to Marywood University in Colonial States Athletic Conference action on Saturday afternoon.

Immaculata falls to 12-6 overall and 7-2 in the league. Marywood improves to 15-4 on the season and 9-1 in the CSAC. 

Chelsea McTigue led the Mighty Macs with 17 points. Chrissy Esbensen chipped in 14 points, and Bridget Welz registered nine points and 11 rebounds in the losing effort. 

Marywood opened up with a 7-2 lead and never trailed in the first half. Immaculata pulled to within one point, 9-8, with 11:46 left, but the Pacers answered back with a 7-0 run. Later in the half, Immaculata pulled within three thanks to a layup by McTigue with just 5:37 to play, but a 17-5 run by Marywood would close out the half and left the Mighty Macs trailing 33-18. 

Immaculata made a valiant effort in the second half and pulled within two, 53-51, at the 4:29 mark. However, the Pacers built its lead with a 6-0 run to pull away for good. 

The Pacers placed four players in double figures. Allison Bruet led the way with 14 points to accompany seven rebounds. Jamie Halloran, Mariah Schaeffer, and Marielle Thorsen all contributed 10 points apiece in the road victory. 

Immaculata takes the court at home on Monday at 6 p.m. opposite CSAC opponent College of Notre Dame.
