Immaculata Women Race Past Gwynedd-Mercy, 81-55

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.
– Immaculata University's women's basketball team raced past Gwynedd-Mercy College on Thursday evening, 81-55, in Colonial States Athletic Conference action.

Immaculata's (12-5, 7-1 CSAC) starters scored 71 of the Mighty Macs' 81 points. Chelsea McTigue scored a game-high 25 points and added seven rebounds and four assists. Leah Kuczynski registered a double-double with 16 points and 10 rebounds while having two blocked shots. Bridget Welz and Rachel Denis each finished with 12 points, as Welz made three assists and Denis had nine rebounds.

The Mighty Macs' final starter, Chrissy Esbensen had six points while dishing out six assists. Kelly Brown came off the bench to add 10 points to Immaculata's effort.

After trading baskets to begin the game, Immaculata rolled out to a 21-8 lead midway through the first half. Gwynedd-Mercy cut the margin to 32-25 with 3:14 remaining in the first stanza, but that was as close as the Griffins would come the rest of the way.

The Mighty Macs ended the first half leading 42-25. Immaculata took its largest advantage of the game with 12:33 left in the second half, 56-28. Immaculata's edge would hover around 20 until McTigue pushed it back to 28 (81-53) with 38 seconds left in the game.

Gwynedd-Mercy (10-6, 6-2 CSAC) was led by Jordan Dominic's 11 points.

Immaculata returns home on Saturday afternoon taking on Marywood University at 1 p.m. in a battle for sole possession of second place in the CSAC.
