Immaculata Men Can't Catch Gwynedd-Mercy, 68-64

GWYNEDD VALLEY, Pa.
– Immaculata University dropped a 68-64 decision on the road to Gwynedd-Mercy College on Thursday night in Colonial States Athletic Conference men's basketball action.

Immaculata slips to 6-10 overall and 4-5 in the league. Gwynedd-Mercy improves to 12-4, 7-2 CSAC.

Robert Siter posted a game-high 21 points, seven rebounds and three assists for the Mighty Macs while Darnell Malabet and Nelson Torres each chipped in 13 points. Eric Barefield came off the bench to add nine points.

Immaculata made a push during the final two minutes of the game as Siter hit four free throws just inside two minutes to cut the Griffins lead to 58-54. Dan DelConte came up with a three-pointer for Gwynedd-Mercy to put the Griffins back up by seven, 61-54, with 1:44 left.

The two squads traded baskets when Malabet sunk a three for the Mighty Macs with one minute remaining, putting Immaculata back within four (63-59). DelConte nailed another three for the Griffins and Malabet answered with a trey for the Mighty Macs with 23 seconds left.

Gwynedd-Mercy was just 2-for-6 from the free throw line down the stretch, but a Siter layup was all Immaculata could muster.

Immaculata shot 50 percent from the field during the first half on 8 of 16 shooting, but Gwynedd-Mercy took a 30-22 lead into the lockerroom after hitting 13 of 32 from the field.

The Mighty Macs continued the hot hand in the second half going 17-for-33 (.515) as they outscored the Griffins 42-38 during the final 20 minutes.

Jon Hogga scored a team-high 18 points for Gwynedd-Mercy to lead four Griffins in double figures.

Immaculata hosts Marywood University at 3 p.m. on Saturday as the Mighty Macs take part in Coaches vs. Cancer Suits and Sneakers this weekend.
