SCRANTON, Pa. –
Rob Siter scored 17 of his 24 points during the second half as Immaculata University rallied from a five-point halftime deficit to down Marywood University, 54-53, in Colonial States Athletic Conference (CSAC) men's basketball action Monday night.
Immaculata ups its mark to 4-8 overall and 2-3 in the CSAC, while Marywood falls to 6-6, 2-3 CSAC.
Siter helped the Mighty Macs control the second half, adding 17 second-half points as the visitors came back from a 26-21 halftime deficit to take a 38-34 lead just over eight minutes into the second stanza. Siter and
Nelson Torres each had four points during a 9-0 run for the Mighty Macs that gave them the lead.
A Siter layup would tie the game at 34-all with 12:23 left, and Siter repeated his effort a minute later to hand the visitors a 36-34 lead. Torres' layup at the 11:27 mark pushed Immaculata's advantage to 38-34.
Marywood tied the game at 40-40, but a steal and dunk by Torres put the Mighty Macs back up two, 42-40. Both teams traded baskets over the next five minutes, until a
Darnell Malabet layup gave the visitors a 49-47 lead with 2:14 to play. Immaculata's performance down the stretch at the foul line gave the Mighty Macs a lead they would not relinquish. Up 52-50 with four seconds left, Siter nailed two free throws to make a Marywood's three-pointer at the buzzer irrelevant.
Siter got 12 points from the free-throw line, and was helped by Torres who had 11 points on the night for Immaculata. Malabet finished with nine points, seven rebounds and three steals.
Brandon Smith led the Mighty Macs with eight rebounds, and
Mark Davenport had four assists.
Marywood was led by John Foreman's team-high 19 points and Matt Lepri's double-double of 12 points and 10 rebounds.
Immaculata returns to CSAC action Thursday when it hosts Cabrini College at 7 p.m. at Alumnae Hall.
