Softball Takes Two From Notre Dame

BALTIMORE, Md. – Nikki Curcione had a no-hitter broken up in the seventh inning of game one, and Immaculata University went on to win both ends of its doubleheader against the College of Notre Dame on Monday afternoon. The Mighty Macs took game one, 5-0, and won the nightcap in six innings, 12-1.

Curcione pitched a seven-inning complete game shutout in the opener. She had a no-hitter going through 6.1 innings when Notre Dame's Ashley Taylor had a bunt single in the bottom of the seventh. It proved to be the only hit of the game while she struck out nine and walked just one.

Immaculata (3-8, 3-3 CSAC) scored five runs on eight hits. The Mighty Macs scored two runs in the second as Shana Kehoe had a two-out triple to score Carol Mastrosante and Kehoe scored on Holly Schell's single.

Immaculata added one more run in the fifth and plated two more in the sixth to seal the win.

Mastrosante led the squad with two hits while Mindy Monastra had two RBI. 

Kristen Smulovitz pitched the complete game for the Gators, allowing three earned runs.

In game two, Notre Dame (2-6, 1-5 CSAC) struck first in the bottom of the first with one run. However, Immaculata quickly took the lead in the top of the second as it scored two runs. Kathleen Haefner had a two-RBI single to left field that brought Julia Lamplugh and Megan Gallagher around to score.

The Mighty Macs added one more run in the third before taking control of the game in the fifth and sixth innings with three and six runs, respectively.

Mastrosante and Sara Holleran each picked up two hits in game, and Holleran had a team-leading three RBI. Allison Zborowski and Haefner each had two RBI and Monastra had one RBI in the second game.

Zborowski pitched all six innings for the Mighty Macs giving up one run on eight hits. She struck out three and walked three.

Cherish Deaver went six innings for Notre Dame, allowing nine hits and nine earned runs.
