Softball Splits Doubleheader With Baptist Bible

CLARKS SUMMIT, Pa. – Immaculata University's softball team claimed a split with Baptist Bible on Friday afternoon. After falling in the opener to the Lady Defenders, 5-3, the Mighty Macs put up a 9-1 showing in game two. 

Immaculata now sits at 15-16 overall and 12-8 in the CSAC. Baptist Bible, which has also secured a seed in the conference tournament, is 16-18 overall and 13-7 in the league.

Immaculata scored two runs in the top of the first inning of game two, staking itself to the early lead and adding to that lead the rest of the way. Jackie Finkbohner and Katie Schreck, the top two hitters in the Mighty Macs' lineup, both reached and scored as Mindy Monastra and Sara Holleran had RBI.

Baptist Bible took back one run in the bottom half of the first, but the Lady Defenders' bats would go quiet as they only managed four hits the rest of the way.

The Mighty Macs one run in the fourth as Holly Schell scored on a wild pitch. Immaculata then added three runs in the fifth and seventh innings.

Finkbohner went a perfect 4-for-4 with two runs scored and one RBI in game two for Immaculata. Schreck, Carol Mastrosante, Allison Zborowski and Schell all collected two hits apiece. Schell also had a team-leading two RBI in the game.

Zborowski pitched a complete game for the win. She allowed just one run on five hits. She walked one and struck out five.

Kelly Bargfeldt pitched seven innings in the loss for Baptist Bible. She was tagged for nine runs, five earned, on 13 hits.

In the opener, Baptist Bible plated two runs in the bottom of the first, but Immaculata quickly responded with two runs in the top of the second to tie the score at 2-all.

The Lady Defenders broke through in the bottom of the third for two more runs to lead 4-2. The Mighty Macs got one run back in the top of fifth, but Baptist Bible answered with one run of its own.

Finkbohner and Holleran each had one of Immaculata's six hits of the game, and each had one RBI.

Nikki Curcione pitched six innings in the loss for the Mighty Macs. She allowed five runs on 10 hits, walked one and struck out five.

Renee Korb went seven innings in the win for Baptist Bible, allowing six hits and striking out eight.

Immaculata plays its final regular-season doubleheader tomorrow afternoon, hosting Philadelphia Biblical on senior day for the Mighty Macs. First pitch is scheduled for 1 p.m.
