Immaculata Softball Sweeps Rosemont

ROSEMONT, Pa. – Senior Carol Mastrosante went a perfect 6-for-6 with a grand slam as Immaculata University softball swept Rosemont College in a conference double header 13-3 and 26-1. Mastrosante had eight RBIs and three runs in the outing.

Rosemont now falls to 0-24 overall and 0-20 in the Colonial States Athletic Conference while the Mighty Macs improve to 14-15 and 11-7 respectively.

Immaculata scored five runs in the first inning of game one, a single tally in the second and posted seven in the fourth to shorten the contest to five innings. Katie Schreck was 4-for-4 in the opener with three runs scored. Mindy Monastra went 3-for-4 with a pair of runs scored. Jackie Finkbonner and Monastra each knocked in three runs.

The first five batters in the fourth reached base safely as two runs scored before an out was recorded. Finkbonner would later hit a three-run triple in the frame.

Nikki Curcione started and went the first three innings. She allowed one hit, walked one and struck out six. Brooke Habermehl finished up, allowing three runs, two of them earned, on five hits. She also struck out a batter.

Caitlin Mazzoni went the distance and suffered the loss for Rosemont. She surrendered 11 earned runs on 14 hits.

In the nightcap, the Mighty Macs posted a pair of nine-run frames in the first two innings, added two in the third and six in the fourth to run away with the second game. Finkbohner was 3-for-5 with five RBI in the second game, finishing the doubleheader with eight RBI.

Allison Zborowski started and lasted three innings, surrendering one run on one hit. She walked two and struck out five. Habermehl finished up once again, tossing two scoreless frames without yielding a hit.

Rosemont's starter pitched 3.1 innings, giving up 26 runs, only 18 of which were earned, on 20 hits. She walked seven and did not strike out a batter.

Everyone in the Mighty Macs' lineup scored a run, including the substitutes, and all but three players registered a hit and an RBI. The Mighty Macs finished with 24 hits in the second game.

Immaculata is back in action tomorrow with another CSAC doubleheader at Baptist Bible.
